The house lies in the region that is called ‘Puisaye” which according to some sources has Celtic origins. The region is famous for its pottery. In the nearby village of St. Amand en Puisaye (within a five minutes drive) there even is a ‘university’ for the art of pottery. A little further away (30 minutes drive) the village of Gien is famous for its porcelain.

For sightseeing there are numerous options. There are the historical cities of Bourges, Auxerre, Vezelay within easy distance and even Paris is only about a 1,5 hours drive away. There is also a trainservice from Cosne-sur-Loire to Paris (gare de Lyon) which takes about two hours. Other sights worth visiting are les Sept Écluses at Rogny (seven locks), the Pont Canal at Briare (a canalbridge crossing the Loire built by Eiffel), the village of St. Fargeau where during the summermonths there are weekly latenight sound and light spectacles (www.chateau-de-saint-fargeau.com/.../le-spectacle-historique) and the buildsite of the Medieval castle Guédelon (www.guedelon.fr).

But the area is also very suited for walking and bicycling and other sports. Within in a short distance from the house (15 minutes drive) there is a large lake where it is possible to swim, fish, hire waterbicycles etc. Next to this lake in the surrounding woods there is an adventurepark, where it is possible to climb from treetop to treetop (www.natureadventure.fr) and a naturepark where deer, swine and other animals can be seen in their natural habitat (www.boutissaint.com). A little further away in the Parc Naturel de Morvan it is also possible to raft, boat and canoe. At Sancerre (20 km) there is a beautiful 18-holes golfcourse (www.golf-sancerre.com). Tenniscourts are available in St. Amand en Puisaye. These are only some the highlights.

When in France it is impossible to forget to enjoy the good food and wine. Noteworthy in this respect are market every saturdaymorning in Toucy and the vineyards of Sancerre, Pouilly Fumé and Chablis, all within easy distance.

For the daily groceries the nearby village of St Amand en Puisaye (just 5 minutes) has everything you may need.
